My worldview is informed by Gaia Theory, proposed by independent scientist James Lovelock, the idea that the earth is like a living organism. Lovelock’s paradigm-breaking concept is that the planet has interconnected geological, chemical, and biological systems that in concert help sustain “conditions that support life” on earth over eons. It is a cybernetic, homeostatic system that has for millions of years maintained a stable temperature and atmosphere. Thus, the key regulatory systems include the atmosphere, estuaries, continental shelves, coral reefs, and rain forests. We disturb their balance at our own peril. The health of these systems and the planet as a whole has been termed geophysiology.
Our job at Gaia Somatics is to help educate people regarding their health and to encourage awareness of and care for the earth’s geophysiology. One of Lovelock’s latest books, the Revenge of Gaia, takes a break look at the future of humanity in the context of our war on earth’s resources. But we are taking a more optimistic view that there is hope for the health of the planet if we heal ourselves as individuals and as a species.
Our mission is to spread the message of health and wellness through yoga, body work, and spiritual (or ethical) development of individuals, families, communities, and society. Our motto is “Healing the planet, one person at a time.”
We seek clients and collaborators who share our values or who are willing to engage with us in dialogue and learning together. We are committed to envisioning preferred futures and working to realize those futures.

I really like what I see here and look forward to reading more as you develop it. Tom and I are very interested in Lovelock’s theory of Gaia and it is a very worthwhile task to educate others on this kind of perspective. Glad to see you included ethics, a particular focus of Tom’s work. Love your holistic approach too. Keep us “posted.”
